Job Description

PURPOSE OF THE ROLE:

You will deliver a professional transport service to the general public to the standards required by the Bus.

Companies as defined in the Passengers Charter, ensuring excellent customer service is delivered at all times so they enjoy a safe, pleasant and comfortable journey.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

The following reflects typical duties and is not intended to be a comprehensive description of all tasks:

1. Operate local bus services, express, school & contract work in accordance with route and time schedules.

2. Provide excellent customer service to passengers at all times, and deal with customer enquiries.

3. Communicate with passengers in a clear, concise and polite manner.

4. Pick up and set down passengers at bus stops with due care for their safety as they board and alight the bus.

5. Be presentable and in full uniform at all times when driving a bus.

6. Deliver safe driving at all times and operate within legal requirements and driving regulations.

7. Ensure the cleanliness of vehicles is maintained at a high standard and meets customer expectations.

8. Take fares, issue tickets and check the validity of travel cards, pre-purchased tickets and passes.

9. Ensure all money taken is accounted for and adhere to the pay-in procedure.

10. Report any accidents/faults and fill in the daily record book.

11. Carry out vehicle first-use checks to ensure the vehicle is road-worthy and inform Inspector or Yard staff of any cleaning, fuelling or maintenance that needs to be carried out on the vehicle.

12. Any other duty as required by the Bus Inspector/Service Delivery Manager.

ESSENTIAL:

Relevant experience

Minimum of two years driving experience after obtaining a full licence.

Customer focus

Ability to provide professional customer service to all customers.

Possess effective listening skills Understand the needs of customers.

Special Aptitudes

Ability to handle cash responsibly Confident and safe driving ability.

Able to deal effectively with journey or roadside eventualities that may arise.

Personal Qualities

Possess a practical approach to dealing with unforeseen situations with the ability to remain calm under pressure.

Ability to effectively handle customer complaints.

Pleasant, approachable and courteous manner.

Team player Reliable and punctual.

Flexible to change in order to meet the demands of the job.

Excellent verbal communication skills.

Circumstances

Able to satisfy such medical standards as may apply to the post and be able to meet the national medical standards of fitness to drive.

In order to be able to hold a PCV licence.

Possess a car driving licence.

Available to work shifts; overtime and weekends in full-time roles.

Good local geographical knowledge (own town and district).

DESIRABLE
Qualifications

Membership of Institute of Advanced Motorists (IAM).

Circumstances

Available for call-outs.

Access to a vehicle Possesses a PCV licence.

Possess a CPC driver qualification card or any module.

BACKGROUND CHECKS:

Bus Driver falls under the definition of Regulated Activity in relation to children, defined in the Safeguarding Vulnerable Groups (SVG) Act 2006 and the Safeguarding Vulnerable Groups (NI) Order 2007 (both as amended). Regulated Activity is work that a barred person must not do.

Applicants for Bus Driver will be required to apply to Access NI for an Enhanced Disclosure Certificate which will inform us of any spent and unspent convictions on your record, and this information will be used to assess your suitability for Bus Driver.

To recruit for a reserve list for Permanent and Temporary positions in the Belfast Area.

We are particularly interested in applications from PCV Licence holders.
